1 of the 10 Reasons Google’s China Stand-Off Matters

ReAmplify'd post by Armando Duran   (Original post by Armando Duran)

I can see how in the near future the fight over control of the internet may be turning like this. Social media may become an enemy to authoritarian governments because it is the voice of the people and sometimes a very loud voice states preferences and demands truth.

Amplifyd from industry.bnet.com
  • It  raises the prospect that the Internet can be shackled by authoritarian governments with their own Web agendas, standards and values. Within the past year, the Chinese government has shut down thousands of web sites, arrested thousands of Internet users, and blocked social networking sites including Google’s YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

Social Media + Wearing Shirts = Lucrative Career?

    ReAmplify'd post by Armando Duran

This is an idea that shows one of those *true* potentials that Social Media brings when used in a creative way.

    Amplifyd from mashable.com

At the very beginning of this year, Jason Sadler started a quirky experiment: I Wear Your Shirt, a project where every day, Jason would wear one shirt from one company per day and post his image on YouTube, Twitter, Ustream, and more. He would be a walking, talking billboard.

The result: he sold out every day and will make over $70,000 this year alone ($66,795 + other contests and deals). Talk about a social media payday.

We think that Jason and Evan’s approach to social marketing is one of the most novel in the realm of social media. We’ve seen Jason’s brand appear over and over again – clearly his grassroots advertising has been well worth the companies who have bought slots. We already wonder how he’ll top himself in 2011

AddATweet: The Web’s New Commenting System

    ReAmplify'd post by Armando Duran

I have thought about this, specially with mainstream media sites where it's not easy to leave comments.

    Amplifyd from mashable.com
When most of us have ideas, they get locked way in the portion of our brain where we house the “if only I had the time or the money to do this” spot.

Shapiro says that he was tired of visiting sites like CNN and not being able to leave a comment without logging in, so he built a way to get around that using the browser and his Twitter (Twitter) identity. The idea took shape as AddATweet, giving us all an instantaneous way to leave a comment wherever we’d like.

AddATweet is exactly as it sounds: it’s a service that lets you add a tweet/comment to any webpage. The Firefox (Firefox) plugin supports comments by creating a browser-based sidebar where you can view, add, filter, and tweet comments.

    ReAmplify'd post by Armando Duran

Where there is a TED video link, I am clicking and watching ... my favorite!

    Amplifyd from mashable.com

synapseThe TED conference has been helping to blow people’s minds for many years now, and that’s in large part because they put videos of many of the TED talks online for anyone to watch, share, and spread for free. But there are a number of other conferences held each year around the world that also bring together visionaries, intellectuals, and luminaries from a wide variety of disciplines to discuss innovative ideas.

With that in mind, below is a list of the top 7 places to watch great minds in action. What makes these conferences special is both the people they’re able to assemble together in one place and that they put videos of the experiences online for everyone to enjoy. What other conferences attract the top minds in the world? Let us know in the comments.

    1. TED

    2. Pop!Tech

    3. Business Innovation Factory

UK Government Writes a Twitter Guide…in 20 Pages

    ReAmplify'd post by Armando Duran

    According to L.A. times (http://bit.ly/2kajAQ):

"Of the 2,025 U.S. adults surveyed, 69% said they didn't know enough about Twitter to comment on the service.

Twitter acknowledged that its homepage doesn't do much to help newcomers decipher the point of the website. The company plans to unveil a revamped landing page this week for visitors who don't have accounts or aren't logged in." ... In the mean time:

Unlike some other Twitter guides, like the one from Wall Street Journal, it’s not focused on forbidding things and telling employees what NOT to do, which is a good example of how these types of guides should be done.

While we’re at on the subject of very long Twitter guides, you might want to check Mashable’s Twitter Guide Book, a collection of resources which helps you understand what Twitter is and how to make the best of it.
